High School Student
Mika joined Utah Connections Academy during the pandemic and loved it. “This school lets me manage my schedule how I want and lets me work at my own pace,” says Mika. His favorite subject is science. His favorite activity is the Utah Connections Academy News club.
The Online School Experience at Utah Connections Academy
Reports Mika, “This school lets me work a week or two in advance, so I can go visit family in Croatia stress-free and not have an insane amount of work when I get back. It also allows me to interact with people and make friends on my terms. I've been told I have a low social battery and after a few hours interacting with people it kind of exhausts me, so being here lets me take a break and recharge for a while after interacting with my peers.
“I have an amazing relationship with my teachers. I truly believe the teachers supporting me are some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. Every one of them has taken the time to reach out to me and make sure I’m doing well. If I ever need any help, they always have the time available for it and the resources to help me.
“I’m looking into a career in science, specifically in microbiology or medicine. This school has given me many opportunities to pursue this goal, like introducing me to a scientist at the University of Utah who gave me internship opportunities there. It’s also allowed me to take college classes. I hope to graduate [from Utah Connections Academy] with an associate’s degree!”

Hobbies and Interests
“I’m passionate about science and music and play the guitar,” says Mika. “This school helps me manage my schedule, so I have time to read [about] the newest hot topics in science. It also lets me make time for guitar practice and have down time to hang out online and play games with friends I met through the school’s gaming club. They live in different states, and I got to visit with them this past summer.”

Mika is a high school student with a busy schedule and big dreams. He loves Connections Academy and appreciates the school’s flexible approach to education and the support of his teachers. Mika is earning college credits and wants to pursue a career related to his passion, which is science.

8:00 a.m. — Wake up and get ready for the day
8:30 a.m. — Attend my first LiveLesson® session of the day
9:00 a.m. — Attend my second LiveLesson of the day (usually U.S. History)
9:45 a.m. — Take a 15-minute break before my next LiveLesson
10:00 a.m. — Attend my third LiveLesson (usually Honors English)
10:45 a.m. — Work on lessons that I have for the day
12:15 p.m. — Attend my final LiveLesson of the day
1:00 p.m. — Lunch break
1:30 p.m. — Finish the lessons I worked on earlier
3:00 p.m. — Attend club meeting for Utah Connections Academy News
4:00 p.m. — Start studying for my college classes
5:00 p.m. — Dinnertime
6:00 p.m. — Spend time with family or play games with friends
10:00 p.m. — Go to sleep to rest up for the next day!
